Photos of Fighting Bighorn: The Fire Few Will Forget

In the summer of 2020, while Tucsonans were still trying to figure out how a pandemic would play out, fire fighting teams were heavily engaged in battling the Bighorn Fire, which eventually grew to burn 120,000 acres, injured 7 and cost $37 million. Started by lightning hitting Bighorn Mountain, and recorded in photos being taken at the time by a local photographer, the fire burned from June 5th, 2020, until declared contained on July 23rd.

Following are photos taken on the Pusch Ridge to Samaniego Ridge side of the fire, including from Catalina State Park on the first evening after the fire began at Bighorn Mountain, spreading quickly to Table Mountain over the first day.
