Personal Aircraft with Timeless Style
At one time more popular than today, the Piper Seneca evolved from the earlier well-known Cherokee Six. The Seneca twin-engine prototype still carried the Cherokee single engine and was flown as a tri-motor.
The creators of a best-known trainer in the U.S., the Cub, Piper has a long tradition in personal aircraft. As a trainer and basic airplane, the Seneca PA-34 has gone through several updates in technology and styling over almost a half century of use. Yet it retains a classic personal aviation appearance.
Known for reliability and a good cargo capacity, pilots also give the Seneca high marks for a low sticker price and high fuel efficiency.
The Seneca “V,” designation for the most recent model, has the ability to land and take off from 2,700 to 3,000-ft/823 to 914-m landing strips, and the twin turbocharged Continental engines give it good performance at high density altitudes. Many pilots consider it a very good winter plane when purchased with the Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI) package.
The Move to Florida
When Hurricane Agnes storm surge backed up the Susquehanna River at Lock Haven, PA, in July of 1972, the new Seneca and older Twin Comanche being built at the Piper works there were literally inundated. The Comanche line was ended and the Seneca production moved to a new Florida operation for Piper, which continues today.
